Poetic Musings of a Southerner

Unpublishable.

Written: February 24, 2026

One phrase, one comment, one word,
Suddenly I’m 14 again.
Chest aches.

I withdraw into the shell that has proven itself bulletproof.
No one can reach me here. I am safe.
I am not a disappointment.
I am strong. I am a survivor.

Here, it is just me and my broken cd cases. My pushpins. My rubber bands. My rulers.

No one else can hurt me.

I won’t be hit with a book. I won’t be thrown to the ground.
No knives thrown. No screaming. Just peace.

The only danger here is me.
