Poetic Musings of a Southerner

Summer

Written: January 15, 2025

Summer is June bugs and thunderstorms
Summer is lightning bugs and bumble bees
Summer is hot sand and shark teeth–grills and mosquitoes and fireworks and swimming,
Baseball and roadtrips and meteor showers on a blanket in the night

Summer is deck dancing on Easy Street
Summer is goodbye
Summer is hello
Warm breeze stealing icy snow from our hearts like a thief in the night

Summer is green and ice cream and river walks and snow cones and sun
Summer is bird songs and gull calls and screams of laughter and howls of bonfires

Yet I am but a lone cricket

Screaming in the dark.
