POEM BELOW
Nightmares
Screams
Fingers pointing at me
Memories of soft flesh sliced deep red
The voices still scream way back in your head
Concealing the blades to hide from yourself
To silence the voices: “you’re better off dead”
A daily fight just to make it through some way
You never thought you’d be here, past your 13th birthday
Your pencil, a ruler, the new jagged cd case,
Your keyboard, a new push pin
You don’t have to bleed just to feel something
You curl up and cry alone in your bed
but maybe soon it won’t be so hard to believe
That better days are just ahead
This poem was written after someone in a Facebook group I’m in tried to kill herself on Live. People in the comments begged her to tell them where she was so they could call for help. She continued to cut her throat with a knife. It finally came out that she was in England. Then her Facebook was deactivated. I felt so helpless scouring for resources and a way to help her while keeping up the video to make sure I wasn’t too late. I don’t know if she ever received help. I can only pray so.
In the shower the next day, I started feeling guilty for not doing more to help her, and it triggered thoughts and memories of my own previous self harm.
Please, if you need help, get it. Ask for it. You are not alone. People want to help you. You are a bright spot in someone’s day. You are important and loved. Take care of yourselves.
I love you.
