Poetic Musings of a Southerner

Written: December 10, 2025

Bright lights, big city;
I’m in love with a memory

Dreaming of what it could be
Waking up to him in the kitchen
Making eggs and coffee

Arms safely around me–on the couch, the bed, the train,
The car, the kitchen, and on the street

But I’m in love with a memory

Kindness, humor, compassion, support,
All of these and so much more.

Beach walks and snow and staying home to care for me

But I’m in love with a memory

Having plans but being snowed in come February;
It seems I’m just in love with a memory

Love, passion, confidence, heat:
All treasures I collected on our brief journey

But now I’m just in love with a memory

T-shirts and handcuffs and laughter and knives
Feeling ice as it melts, wet on my thighs

It’s been years since then, and
I’ve the world at my feet.

Still he remains – but I’m in love with a memory.
