Poetic Musings of a Southerner

Youth

Written: January 23, 2024

Youth, we hope, will save us
Our youth, “their” youth
Any youth–just save us

We hope youth and innocence will protect the kids. Any. All.
Just protect them.

It doesn’t work that way.

Kids die. Cancer. Bullets. Cars.
Fire. Drugs. Noose.

In the end, we all lose.

We barrel towards death never knowing when we’ll be stopping in the snowy wood.

For now, all we can do is hope and do good.
