Poetic Musings of a Southerner

Written: May 24, 2024

I’m my own worst enemy
I’ve heard it a thousand times
I just can’t defeat it
No matter how hard I try

I hear grace, love, and compassion
It’s all in my head–for others only, though–
I don’t love myself in the same fashion

I feel like an imposter, a loser, a fuck up, a floater
And every day, I just wait til it’s over

I’m at summer camp or an intern, of course
No way on earth I’d ever be more
He doesn’t make mistakes and neither does she
But then look around at the fuck up:

me.
